San Mateo County Nanny Survey

A Collaboration with San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council and TIFFAN

In 2022, the San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council (CCPC) partnered with The Institute for Families and Nannies (TIFFAN) to conduct a comprehensive survey of nannies living and/or working in San Mateo County. The goal was to assess nannies’ satisfaction with advanced education opportunities, job training, mentoring programs, and career support, as well as to gauge their interest in these resources if made available. The findings will guide San Mateo County’s childcare initiatives in 2023 and beyond.

The survey, conducted both online and in person from March 15 to May 2, 2022, focused on nannies in San Mateo County. Additionally, a national sample was collected online to provide broader context for comparison.

Pathways Forward: Empowering Nannies as Early Care Educators

To better understand nannies’ satisfaction with professional development opportunities and career pathways, TIFFAN collaborated with key organizations, including the International Nanny Association, Adventure Nannies, a national nanny placement agency, and the National Domestic Worker Alliance. Together, they launched a survey that reached over 25,000 nannies across the United States.

The survey received 203 responses, including 119 unique answers to the question:
“What ideas do you have that would support you in providing the best care for children?”

These insights are shaping the future of professional development for nannies and highlighting the critical role they play as early care educators.
