A note from Alyce
Alyce Desrosiers, Founder of The Institute for Families and Nannies
My journey into the world of families and nannies began in 1996. It all started when a friend, bedridden during a high-risk pregnancy, asked for my help in finding a nanny for her toddler. As a clinical social worker with experience in childcare, I assumed the task would be straightforward. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
What I encountered was a fragmented industry—a community of caregivers marginalized and hidden in the shadows, lacking standards and licensing. Instead of finding a "Mary Poppins" with a robust background in education and experience, fewer than 10% of candidates met even basic qualifications. After weeks of searching, we found the right fit. That experience sparked a passion in me to bridge the gap between parents and nannies, creating meaningful partnerships that provide children with the care they deserve.
Since then, I’ve worked with hundreds of families, thousands of nannies, and authored three books on the subject. In 2016, I founded The Institute for Families and Nannies (TIFFAN). Alongside a devoted team of nannies and early childhood educators, we’ve developed comprehensive job training, educational programs, and ongoing support to uplift this essential profession.
